I told you so!

See, here's proof that no matter where dad throws the stick, I am able to retrieve it. However, I don't like giving it back to my dad. I always trick him by running straight towards him and then veering off in another direction. Now who's the fool? Not Sawyer Burk!

I'll Get it Dad

Playing at the creek is so much fun. I especially love when my dad throws the stick. He can throw really far. He always likes to trick me into things he is throwing it in the opposite direction. But, I'm lightning fast and can change directions at the drop of a hat. Can't fool good ol' Sawyer the Dog!!!

King of the Creek

There is no denying that I am the King of the Creek. When the ducks see me coming, they run straight into the water. It's such a nice greeting with all the splashing and waves. They are so sweet to make it a special event for me. They know my routine and they don't want to mess it up. Thanks little duckies. See you real soon!

Sawyer the Explorer

After finding exotic creatures like turtles and pine cones this spring, my parents and I went back to the creek to see what other new discoveries we could find. We searched high and low. Nothing new was found, but I got to scare the guess into the water. That's always fun. They almost stand up on their hind feet and run into the water with their wings fully opened. They also make a silly sound as if they are squawking at me.
If you enlarge the photos (by double clicking on them, you could see the huge splashes and ripple effects from running away from little ol' me. What a great game to play with my friends the geese. We try to play it every time I go to the creek. I think they are starting to like it!!!

Grandma Beef Jerky

Happy Birthday Grandma Beef Jerky!
Here are some fun photos of my Grandma Beef Jerky and I!!

This is where it all began. You may not know this, but my Grandma Beef Jerky is one of my favorite people in the world. Just hearing her voice over the phone is exciting. She loves me so much that she brings me Beef Jerky every time she visits. It's the best thing I've ever eaten!!

Here I am bonding with my Grandma at Christmas time. She is wearing her pink girl's outfit that JJ suggested. Grandma and I have great taste in a lot of things other than beef jerky. For instance, we both love her comfy chair. See the funny story in my archives in January 2008.

As mentioned lots of times before, I love comfort. Few things would ever take me away from my parent's bed at night. However, when Grandma and Grandpa are here, I am their dog. I stay by their side the entire time, even when they are sleeping. Best friends do everything together.

Happy Birthday Grandma Beef Jerky!

Grandma Diana

Happy Birthday Grandma Diana!
Today is my Grandma Diana's birthday. Here of some of the photos we've taken together.
Here we are last June 2007 in her beautiful backyard. She was protecting me from my dad who wanted me to play in the pool. You probably remember that I hate water. If you don't remember, check the archives in July 2007 for more photos. For an even bigger laugh, check my archives May 2006 for my first experience with the pool.
Here is Grandma Diana and I this past January. She had brought me lots of yummy treats that look like people food. She used me as a example to show Barclay what a good pup looks like. Sure I can sit, do I get a treat?

Last, but not least, here we are planting in the backyard last month. My grandma is a Master Gardener. All the photos you've seen lately have been things she created to make my backyard beautiful. Thanks Grandma.. Happy Birthday!!

Up Close and Personal with...

the huge turtle. Yesterday's photos were great of me, but I don't think my loyal blog viewers had a chance to see what I saw when I was up close and personal with Ted the Turtle. What's interesting is that his large, hard shell is very shiny. However, his face, arms and legs are pretty rough. I guess that's why it's a reptile. I wonder if I'm a reptile? Even though I have super soft fur like a Lamb's Ear plant in my backyard, my paws are rough and dry. Maybe, I'm related to the turtle. He could be my cousin. What do you think?

Now that's huge!!

Not too long after we discovered the itsy bitsy turtle, we stumbled upon another turtle at the pond. This time it was a huge, gigantic, enormous turtle. I couldn't believe the sheer size of the turtle. He must have been living for a long time. I wonder what that turtle eats to get that big?
Needless to say, I didn't care about sticks that day at the creek. I only wanted to explore this foreign creature. Since my mom was at home, my dad decided to bring it to the front doorstep to share in this new discovery. Isn't it cool, mom?

Itsy Bitsy Turtle

Spring sure brings about lots of little creatures!

When my dad was mowing the yard, he noticed something moving in the grass. In an effort not to harm the tiny creature, he stopped the mower and search to see exactly what it could be. He found this cute, adorable, darling, little bitty turtle. (You may have to click on the photo to enlarge the photo to see just how beautiful it really is.)

My dad made to sure place the little turtle in a safe place away from the mower. Little did this tiny turtle know that a gentle giant would save his life!! My dad, the hero!

The Ferocious Beast (Part 2)

After the excess amount of barking I produced while warding off the ferocious beast. My mom decided not to retreat for safety, but decided to ensure that her baby boy was safe and sound. So she came over to see what was posing a threat to our family. Then she saw it!!!!
What exactly was this beast? I did not have a name for it, but my mom labeled it a PINE CONE.
When I lunged forward to ward it off, it pricked my mouth over and over. So I finally took a huge breathe and went for the gold. I grabbed the pine cone and ran across the yard to keep my mother safe from harm's way. Then one by one, I plucked the dangerous (and probably lethal) shards until it was bare and no longer a threat. Once again, SAWYER THE DOG SAVED THE DAY!!!!

The Ferocious Beast (Part 1)

Last weekend, I was outside running around while my mother was reading a book by our beautiful flowers. And what did my wondering eyes did appear... A FEROCIOUS BEAST! I crept in slowly to take a gander. As I got closer, I was unsure exactly what this beast could be. In order to protect my dear, precious, wonderful mom, I did what every good son would do. I BARKED! and I BARKED and I BARKED! Then I lunged forward and went in for the kill. Nothing is going to attack my mother. Don't worry Mom, Your Safe with Sawyer Burk around!!!
Are you wondering what the ferocious beast was? Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Growing Too Fast

Every since I was a puppy, everyone has told me I was a big dog. Why is it that everyone tells children to "Slow Down. You're Growing Too Fast"? What I realized is that many things grow fast. For instance, here is a photo of the bushes my dad planted last summer. He added the limestone and bark this year. This first photo was taken at the beginning of spring.
Now look at the photo with me. This is the most recent photo of the bushes. Haven't they grown a lot? I'm sure glad they kept growing. I used to get in a lot of trouble with my parents when I would nibble off the leaves and branches. My parents thought they wouldn't grow well if I kept eating them. But the proof is in the photos!!

Look Ma, I Helped

Last year, we had some plants in the corner of our patio so that I could see them from the inside of the house. So I helped my mom pick a few out. Some of the plants were beautiful all by themselves so there was no need to combine them like the pink Geraniums, purple Mexican Heather, and the greenish-white (oh so soft) Lambs Ear. The Lamb's Ear is so soft that my mom said it reminded her of my ears. But we all know that nothing can be that soft!

My mom liked the lamb's ear so much that we bought a little one for the mini pot between the patio chairs where she sits to take in some rays. I also added some of the celosias and festival dance coleus. Maybe those bright color plants will distract my mom from loving the lamb's ear so much. After all, few things in life should ever be more important than noticing and petting me!!! Don't you agree?

Won't My Grandma Be So Proud of Me!!

I'm watering my baby plant-ies, won't Grandma be so proud of me. I'm watering my baby plant-ies -- whoa, it's storming.
(Sung to the Tune of "Baby Bumble Bee")

After the few cold days, I had to work really hard to get my babies back to normal. So when the winds blew in and the storms gushed by, I got a little nervous. I crossed by paws and hoped that the tornado that was here last week didn't take them away. Boy did we get lucky. We are so blessed to be safe and sound with our plants to cheer us up!
NOTE: Click on the photo to enlarge and see just how cute I really am!

Sawyer to the rescue!!

You may remember that I had a brief absence at the end of April/beginning of May. I mentioned that the weather got cold one night and though the plants were covered, the wind gushed through our backyard. Thus causing some of my dear plants to widdle away.
Since the plants mean so much to my mom and I, we worked really hard to restore them. I personally worked so hard that my mom wanted me to stand next to the plants and show what I had done. You might have to compare back and see what changed due to the unpredictable weather of Oklahoma.

Note: In the big urn, the coleus and sweet potato vine were shrived. Since there weren't great replacements at the nursery to replensh them, I had to make a few changes. We picked some white verbenas and white/yellow confetti to fill in the gaps.

"Singin in the Rain"

"I'm singing in the rain, Just singing in the rain, What a glorious feelin' I'm happy again"

Well almost. I am not that big of a rain fan. I don't like to get my paws wet when I got outside. However, I do like tp drink the water on the patio and listen to the creek when it's full.

Shortly after my Grandma Diana helped plant flowers, rain swept through our neighborhood. In fact, there was so much rain that the creek was extremely high. We're pretty lucky that our backyard slopes a bit. If it didn't the creek would have creeped up our backyard making my paws awfully wet. Take a look at all that water. Now that's a lot of rain!

Spring Has Sprung

Last year you may remember that my parents planted a Bradford Pear Tree in the backyard. It smelled so good that I couldn't help by take a bite of the bark. I would nibble a little here and a little there. My parents weren't too happy with me when they got home. They always get onto my about barking in the backyard. However, when they saw what I had done, they told me that "My bite was worse than you bark."
Looking back, my parents shouldn't have been worried. A year has gone by and the Bradford Pear has made it through. In fact, the blooms during spring were beautiful. But you know what they say about beauty...it's fleeting. Therefore I had to enjoy the pretty flowers while they lasted. Can't wait to see it happen again next year.

I Got it!

Throw after throw, I conquered the game. I was lightening fast....so fast that I think I had something better than cat-like reflexes...I had dog-like reflexes. Boy am I good!!! I wanted everyone to see that I had caught the ball each time so I would go around showing everyone. However, I didn't want to give it up. Why wouldn't my dad just find another ball to throw? That way I could add them all up. Little did dad know that I was making up a game of my own "Keep away from dad!" It's so fun, but somehow the Alpha of our family, DAD, always wins in the end.

Good Eye

My dad made up a new game with the tennis ball where he would throw it onto the roof. At first, I would watch it bounce off and run to catch it. Eventually I learned to listen closely for where I thought it would be when it rolled down and catch it in my mouth. I was pretty good at predicting the landing.
Barclay on the other hand wasn't as good at this new game. Maybe because he's still a youngster. He could never track where the ball was going. In fact, when my dad threw the ball on the roof, Barclay noticed the direction it was going and ran inside the house. He didn't realize it went upwards. Silly dog... So much to learn. Good thing Sawyer is here to teach you Uncle Barclay!

Barclay and Grandpa Don

While Grandma Diana and my mom planted flowers, my dad and Grandpa Don had to entertain me and my Uncle Barclay. They knew that we wanted to be outside with the ladies so they decide to make a game with the tennis ball. Since I don't like to chase after tennis balls (only sticks), my dad got really creative. Tune in tomorrow to find out what game he invented.

The Anniversary Bouquet

This photo goes out to my Grandpa Bob and Grandma Beef Jerky. Today is their wedding anniversary. I saved this photo just for them because it looks like something my Grandma would love. She loves pink flowers dainty flowers. When we made this pot for the patio table, I thought it looked like a perfect wedding bouquet. Don't you love all the colors? I especially love the hot pink Snap Dragons (on the right) next to the Dusty Miller (Middle back). They just seem to pop!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!
Hope you have a wonderful Anniversary today! I love you both! See you real soon!

Pretty Potted Plants

Can you say that 5 times fast?

Here are the pots that my Grandma Diana helped us plant. We found this huge urn at Home Depot for half off. What a great deal! In fact, it was such a great deal that when it was pointed out, my dad saw the price, hopped up on the ladder, pulled it down and placed it on the cart without hesitating. Usually he is very hesitant to buy things, but he knew it was a great purchase, especially for the enormous size.

What's your favorite plant in the photos? The Blue Juniper (tree), the Celosias (the fuzzy plants in both photos), the purple fountain grass, or the confetti (on the far right in the urn)?

I'm Back!

Sorry I was gone for a while. When my Grandma Diana came a few weeks ago, she helped me plant new flowers in my backyard. She knows that when it gets warm, I like to spend endless hours playing outside. She always likes to make it extra special for me!!! It looks absolutely beautiful now!! Thanks Grandma Diana!

A few days after she left, it got really cold one night. My mom tried to cover the plants with towels, but the wind gushed through and pulled them off. Needless to say, some of the flowers took a hard hit. Therefore I had to tend the flowers to bring them back to life. That's why I've been gone for a while. But, now I'm back and can't wait to show you my newly decorated patio!!! Stay tuned!
