St Paul's Cathedral
My parents thought that one of the most exciting sites in London was St Paul's Cathedral. The cathedral has been at the heart of London for 1400 years. It was founded in 604 AD by St Mellitus.
There have been 5 churches built on this very site. The previous one was destroyed in the Great Fire. In 1675, King Charles II, requested it be rebuilt by Christopher Wren. It took 35 years to completed and was the first English Cathedral to be completed within the lifetime of its architect.
My parents thought the inside of the Cathedral was breath-taking with the large paintings, mosaics, and carvings. Unfortunately, they could not take photos inside. To see a better view go to the bottom of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Paul%27s_Cathedral.
One of the best parts about St Paul's is that my parents got to see the inside as well as the outside. From St Paul's, they got one of the best views of London. First they climbed 163 steps to the Whispering Gallery. My parents were able to whisper across a large area and hear each other due to the construction of the room.
From 282 steps up, my parents visited the Stone Gallery where stairs lead to the outside of the building. It gives a great glance of London, but not as good as the Golden Gallery which is 434 steps up. Here are a few photos from the top of the Cathedral. It's one of the best panoramic views anyone could see of London. I'm sure you'll think the same!
