Beefeaters

One of the best parts about the Tower of London was the BEEFEATER who took my parents on a tour. Their official name is The Yeomen Warders of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London. (Now that's a long name!) They are responsible for protecting the royal family, looking after any prisoners at the Tower and safeguarding the Crown Jewels. There is even a Ravenmaster that watches over the Ravens at the Tower. An individual must serve in the military and have high honors to be appointment this coveted position.

Here is my parents' experience with two Beefeaters. One stood perfectly still and never moved an inch while the other told stories about London and it's great past. He was really funny! He told about what Humpty Dumpty really meant as well as the phrase "Got off Scot free!" You'll have to ask my parents to tell you the story.

DID YOU KNOW? The origin of the name BEEFEATER is unknown. The most likely is considered to be the Wardens' payment in rations that included beef, as well as mutton and veal. Maybe I would like to be a beefeater. That way I can eat people food whenever I want. Afterall, I do protect the house and watch our family's possessions! You could call me Sir Sawyer the Gray Weimaraner of the Royal Burk Family. Cool huh!!!
