Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of the must-see places in London. The tower is often identified by the White Tower built by William the Conqueror in 1078.

The Tower's primary function was a fortress, a royal palace, and a prison (particularly for high status and royal prisoners, such as Queen Elizabeth I. Some of the prisoners like King Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, were even beheaded in the courtyard).

It has also served as a place of execution and torture, an armoury, a treasury, a zoo, a Royal Mint, a public records office, and an observatory.

Probably the most exciting use of the tower started in 130 when it became the home of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom!!! That was my mom's favorite part! Unfortantely she couldn't try any of the jewels on and had to look from a distance. Is that a way to treat a true Queen?

Here are a few views of the Tower of London. Don't forget to notice the wall that was demolished by the Blitz as well as the courtyard linking to the entrance at Traitor's Gate.
