Parlament

Just South of Westminster Abbey lies The Houses of Parliament. The first known royal palace to occupy Parliament’s site was Edward the Confessor’s (c1065). Until 1512 the royal family lived where Parliament is now situated, but a fire forced them to move out. Currently, Parliament serves as a political institution. It it broken into two houses:

House of Commons (representatives from counties, towns and cities)

&

House of Lords (members of the nobility and clergy)
